A refundable retainer is a deposit for future work, with any unused remainder returned upon case completion. A non-refundable (or "earned upon receipt") retainer acts as a fee to guarantee the attorney's availability, which may not be returned.

We track hours and costs, and the retainer acts as a pre-payment from which invoices are deducted.
